Over 55 Percent of Germans Online

The number of Internet users in Germany has doubled since 2000, according to a survey conducted by public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. The study found that 35.7 million adults, or 55 percent of the population above the age of 14, have access to the Internet. Teenagers between 14 and 19 years old still use the Internet most with 94.7 percent, followed by employed people 73.4 percent. However, a digital divide still exists among the senior population -- with only 14.5 percent of the over-60 population online -- and the unemployed, of whom on 22.9 percent are online.
