German Historical Museum Asks "What is German?"
The Deutsches Historisches Museum is dedicated to connecting Germans with their historical roots -- from the beginning up to the present -- with emphasis on international connections and regional diversity.
A Couple of Tall Fellows
Friedrich Wilhelm's battalion of Red Grenadiers, pictured here, were famous for their height. New recruits were required to be at least 1.88 meters (6 feet 4 inches), which won them the nickname "die langen Kerls" (the tall fellows).
The German Historical Museum is housed in the Zeughaus. Completed in 1706 after 11 years of construction, it is the oldest building on Berlin's most luxurious allee Unter den Linden.
