Deutsche Welle journalists win prizes for achievements in radio
November 7, 2007Stefan Nestler, sports reporter for DW-RADIO, won the “European Radio Award 2007” in the category “Best Sports Special” for his radio feature about an expedition to Manaslu in Nepal. The Global Traffic Network sponsored the awards which were handed out for the first time this year in Barcelona.
Nestler’s expedition was lead by Ralf Dujmovits, the most-successful, high-altitude mountain climber in Germany. Nestler accompanied Dujmovits to Nepal and then reported daily from the base station for a month at an elevation of 4,850 meters. Among other things, the Deutsche Welle reporter wrote entries for a blog directly from the camp in the Himalayas (blogs.dw-world.de/manaslu).
Nestler has been working for Deutsche Welle since 1988 and in the sports department of DW-RADIO since 1997. In the last few years he has travelled several times to the Himalayas and regularly reported about extreme mountain climbing in high altitudes.
Monika Dittrich, editor in Deutsche Welle’s studio in Berlin, has won the “Central Germany Journalist Award” for a radio piece about a committed job-placement officer in Thuringia. The theme for the ward was “Innovative Central Germany”. The jury was looking for print, radio and TV pieces that show the development of business in the region.
