In 2004, when Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz 2004 was living as a fellowship holder in Berlin, he enjoyed taking pictures of the vacant lots in the city. Even back then he knew he wanted to shoot a film here. Now he's doing so. Praia do Futuro begins in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza, but is set chiefly in Berlin.
