Ema Nevenka JülichOctober 18, 2008

Germany's Social Democrats - the Junior Partner in the governing coalition - are holding a special meeting today to endorse the team that will lead them into next year's federal election. Delegates are expected to elect Franz Münterfering as his successor and the current foreign minister - Frank Walter Steinmeier as its candidate for Chancellor. The party hopes the change at the top will revive its political fortunes following dismal ratings in recent months. +++SYN MAZ+++
