The American sandwich chain Subway has high hopes for Germany. Until 2010, Subway wants to expand its 66 restaurants to 1,500 following better-than-expected results in Germany. The sandwich restaurant says it wants to offer an alternative to fast-food giants such as Burger King and McDonalds. According to a spokesman, Germans that climb on board now as franchise owners "can become millionaires." The first Subway in Germany opened in 1999 in Berlin. The company has more than 20,000 stores worldwide and yearly sales of more than $6 billion, according to the latest figures.
