Here in Germany, the Bundestag is debating the proposed reduction of conscription from nine to six month. The opposition Social Democrats are against the move, arguing it would destroy the country's post-war tradition of the cititzen in uniform - one of the pillars of German democracy. But defence minister Karl Teodor zu Guttenberg says all options are on the table as the government searches for savings as as part of its 80 Billion Euros austerity plan.
