Pakistan's Supreme Court has postponed a by-election in the constituency of former premier Nawaz Sharif. The move comes after the government appealed against a ruling of the Lahore high court, disqualifying Sharif from contesting the vote on the basis of his previous convictions. The two-time former prime minister returned from exile earlier this year before the February 18 polls in which his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged as the second largest party after defeating Musharraf's allies.
