We begin in Japan where leaders of the world's top industrialized countries have agreed to work towards a global target of cutting greenhouse gasses by at least half by the year 2050. The final climate communique agreed to by G8 leaders at a summit in northern Japan also said mid-term goals would be needed to achieve the shared target. Japan's Prime Minister added that all major economies, including India and China, needed to contribute to cutting harmful emissions.
