Around 25 million visitors every year come to experience the attractions of Bavaria. The largest federal state of Germany has no shortage of clichés, from beer and brass bands to sausages and Lederhosen. The annual highlight for visitors is the Oktoberfest, the world’s largest street festival and funfair. Bavaria also has a huge range of natural attractions, however, such as the Alps and the lakes. Culture vultures are likewise well catered for; they can tour medieval towns such as Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and explore countless palaces and castles, including Neuschwanstein with its fairy tale charm. State capital Munich boasts a world-class range of museums, as well as its own Bavarian take on big-city flair.
