Is this slimy, brown algae off Norway's coast future food?

Off the west coast of Norway, a startup is harvesting brown algae as a sustainable resource.

The fast-growing plants require no fertilizer and are collected after seven months using both manual labor and machinery. The seaweed is used in food products, including meat alternatives, as well as in textiles and packaging.

The European Union and researchers see strong potential, but production levels are still too low for uses such as biofuels.
