The plan was to pay a visit to his cousin Carlos, relax on the beach and bask in the region’s Caribbean flair. But shortly before Jorge Sánchez Meza’s arrival, a hurricane hit the state of Veracruz in Mexico. His cousin’s village, Soledad de Doblado, is also affected, and many families here have lost everything.
