People's view on why stereotypical mistrust does persist between the Catholic and the Muslim faith - je 06.11.2008 10

The Catholic-Muslim forum in Vatican City comes to end today after three days of talks between Islamic leaders and Roman Catholic leaders headed by Pope Benedict. Two years ago, the pope angered the Muslim world with a speech implying that Islam was a violent religion. In response, Muslim scholars invited the catholic church to a new dialogue to foster mutual respect and understanding, under the motto "A Common Word". But why does stereotypical mistrust persist between two faiths which ultimately have the same roots? We sent teams around Cairo and Rome to ask people for their views.
