Michael Ballack`s ankle injury was the subject on Germanys sport pages on Saturday....but the morale-boosting 7-0 victory against football minnows Luxembourg will have pacified the souls of the host nation.

Germany were too strong for Luxembourg, ranked 152nd in the world.

Germany wasted no time in Freiburg showing who was in command. Lukas Podoski found Miroslav Klose in the 5th minute to open the barrage of scoring.

Six minutes later it was Torsten Frings who scored from the penalty spot.

Then it was Podolski again, slamming home Germany's third goal. The young striker displayed his considerable ball control skills throughout the game.

Germany substituted freely in the second half. As usual, this did not affect their rhythm at all and it is always impressive to see how substitutes fit in easily into the national team`s playing system. Bastian Schweinsteiger found Klose in the 59th minute for the striker's second goal.

Not to be outdone, Podolski converted a penalty six minutes later.

And substitute striker Oliver Neuville added a pair of goals of his own in injury time to hand Germany a 7-0 win over their outclassed and overwhelmed opponents.

This was Germanys 25th match under coach Jürgen Klinsmann and the highest victory under his guidance.

Although two of Germanys goals were scored from the penalty spot Klinsmann will be pleased with the score-line and the way his side performed.. Germany`s attacks came mostly down the left with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski combining well throughout the game.

Before the game all the attention had been on Michael Ballack. The German captain had picked up an injury and had to miss the game against Luxembourg.

However, Bremens midfielder Tim Borowski, who stood in for Ballack showed that he is more than just a replacement.

Germany's next warm-up match is against Japan, another World Cup participant, in Leverkusen on Tuesday.

And in womens football FFC Frankfurt won the Uefa Cup beating their arch rivals Potsdam 3-2 after having won the first leg 4-0

Chancellor Angela Merkel presented Frankfurt with the UEFA Cup. It's Frankfurt's second UEFA Cup title - the first came in 2002.
