China pledges strong action on climate change at a major UN summit

Chinese president Hu Jintao has announced his government will take significant steps to tackle carbon dioxide emissions - blamed for global warming. He was speaking at the largest-ever climate summit in New York - which comes just 100 days before the Copenhagen conference - where a draft treaty to succeed the Kyoto Protocol will discussed. US President Barak Obama said fighting climate was a top priority for his administration. And the UN Secretary General warned about the urgency of the issue.
