Foreign ministers from 20 nations met in Canada to discuss North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. Japan and the United States said they will continue with the maximum pressure on North Korea.
North Korea has reacted sternly to last week's announcement that one of its cargo ships had been seized by the US. The seizure was described as "robbery" and against the spirit of recent top-level summits.
Both Koreas have shied away from describing the weapons test as a "missile launch." Nonetheless, Kim Jong Un was reportedly very happy with his latest "projectile" launch into the Sea of Japan.
North Korea appears to have conducted its first missile test since 2017. A series of short-range projecticles were fired into the Sea of Japan.
Senior officials have called for an overhaul of US-Russia ties, saying a more "constructive model" is necessary. Experts say attempts to normalize the often tense relationship will prove difficult, if it's even possible.
