In Germany, women were only allowed to start serving as uniformed officers in the 1980s. Today, the percentage of women in the police forces differs from state to state. In North Rhine Westphalia, 40 percent of officers are female, whereas only 14 percent of officers are women in Bavaria. Further up the ranks, the figure is even lower at just 6 percent.
