June 24th marked the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Berlin Airlift. In April 1945, Soviet troops marched into Berlin liberating the city from the Nazis. Three years later in 1948, an uneasy alliance between the four Allied ruling powers broke down. The Soviets blockaded the city and over the next 11 months, the Western alliance supplied Berlin by air. This look back by Deidre Berger.
