Former Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher takes a look back at the day the Berlin Wall fell, how the city was in the international spotlight and his views on how Germany has developed since reunification.
A tunnel underneath the Berlin Wall has opened to the public for the first time amid celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the wall. The tunnel was built to help East Germans escape to the West.
Celebrations are in full swing as Germany marks 30 years since the Berlin Wall fell. "We want to ensure that no wall will separate people ever again," Chancellor Angela Merkel said.
For forty years Germany was divided into the Federal Republic of Germany in the West and the German Democratic Republic in the East. The division ended on Oct. 3, 1990, when the two sides were reunified.
