Fierce Fighting continues between Georgian and russian troops in south ossetia (09.08.2008) - je 08

In Georgia, people in the separatist region of South Ossetia have woken up to an escalating conflict this morning. +++LM-REIN+++ Moscow is conducting bombing raids on Georgian targets, including the town of Gori. It 's also sending military reinforcements, to support local separatists. The Georgian army has launched a large-scale offensive against the pro-Russian breakaway province. Both sides are reporting casualties ... South Ossetia says 1 400 civilians have been killed. +++LM-RAUS+++ Georgia meanwhile is mobilising all available forces ... it´s withdrawing 2000 Georgian troops currently serving in Irak.
