Everything you need to know from Matchday 1 in the Bundesliga.

Good week for: Christian Pulisic, Yevhen Konoplyanka, Domenico Tedesco, Julian Brandt

Bad week for: RB Leipzig, Ousmane Dembele, Nicolai Müller, Cologne

Best bits:

- Hertha's new-signing Mathew Leckie scored two on debut, a week after becoming a father

- VAR on Saturday in the Bundesliga was a disaster after technical issues. BVB had video for their game, but no calibrated lines to help offside decisions. Hoffenheim and Hertha only had video in the second half, and Hamburg never had any.

- After losing to HSV, Augsburg still haven't won on the opening day in the Bundesliga.

- Four new head coaches made their Bundesliga debuts (Peter Bosz, Sandro Schwarz, Hannes Wolf and Domenico Tedesco).

- In the second division, Union Berlin forgot their goalkeeping kit which meant their keeper had to play in a black t-shirt. Wouldn't want to be that kit man...

- Twelve-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko has now scored eight goals in three games for BVB's U17s. Moukoko first made the headlines on the opening day when, despite being three or four years younger than most, he scored two goals.

- Hannover goalkeeper Philipp Tschauner made his second Bundesliga appeareance 12 years after his first - the second longest wait in Bundesliga history.

Transfer news:

- Stuttgart and BVB have apparently agreed a deal for World Cup winner Erik Durm, but it's dragging due to more medical tests say "kicker".

- Hannover are on the verge of announcing Jonathas, the 28-year-old striker from Rubin Kazan, for a club record fee (reportedly eight million euros).

- Schalke's Atsuto Uchida is expected to leave after being given permission to look for a new club. The Japanese star has been at the Royal Blues since 2010 and is a fan favorite but hasn't really played since 2015 due to knee issues.

"We have a clear position and a clear idea. If this is met, Dembele will be transferred this summer. If not, he'll stay with Dortmund."
Borussia Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc

"The lad is 20, he's not doing everything right. We, as a team, will talk to him when he's back and tell him how we feel."
Nuri Sahin on Ousmane Dembele after the 3-0 vs. Wolfsburg

"Burke is staying, except if something unusual happens."
RB Leipzig head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl

Best quotes:

"Going 1-0 up made us uncertain, doubling the lead rattled us even more. We have to do better."
Hertha Berlin head coach Pal Dardai after his side won 2-0 on the opening day.

"Unrest, as a rule, is with the media. We are not anxious. If you speak to Bene [Benedikt Höwedes], he'll confirm that. Domenico has given his reasons and is sticking to them. You have to break away from names like Höwedes. Bene is a brilliant bloke, but it has to be possible for a head coach to decide who plays on the weekend. Nobody is thinking about getting rid of Benedikt Höwedes."
Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel

"If it had been yesterday, we would have gone 1-0 up."
Freiburg head coach Christian Streich on VAR correctly ruling out Freiburg's opener

"Ousmane is actually a nice bloke and what he is doing is, of course, not on, but I also did a lot of crap when I was 20 and if all that butter was smeared on bread today, it would make a fat sandwich."
Borussia Dortmund's Hans-Joachim Watzke on Sky

"It was clear that Mario Götze is an exceptional player and that he'll still be very important for us. But we have to be patient. I was happy he got game time and didn't injure himself."
BVB head coach Peter Bosz

Bizarre Bundesliga:

Nicolai Müller, one of Hamburg's most important players, scored seven minutes into the new season but tore his cruicate ligament in his right knee while celebrating and is out for seven months. HSV head coach Markus Gisdol said he had never experienced anything like that before, but in many respects it falls fittingly into Hamburg's troubles.
