Berlin to close Christmas market due to terror attack anniversary

To mark the first anniversary of the December 19 event, the Christmas market at the Breitscheidplatz will be closed the whole day. The market will reopen on Wednesday.

A memorial has been unveiled by the relatives of the victims of the attack that killed 12 people on December 19, 2016.

The 17-meter-long line of bronze on the square ground is meant to symbolize the wound the attack left in the lives of the victims' loved ones.

Additionally, the names of the victims were engraved in the steps of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, which is located in the square.
