Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not feature in his side's German Cup semifinal clash against Hertha Berlin on Wednesday after picking up a toe injury.

The Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday that the Gabon international had to stop training on Monday due to a “very painful” toe injury, which had been “causing him problems for weeks.” Later, the club confirmed that Aubameyang had undergone an MRI scan that found bone splintering in his toe.

This will be the first major injury for the 26-year old goalscorer this season, who has missed four games of the current campaign through separate injuries. The club have yet to confirm the severity of the injury but the forward is expected to miss Wednesday's game and possibly Saturday's Bundesliga game against Stuttgart.

Aubameyang has been one of Thomas Tuchel's most consistent performers this season, with 37 goals, 12 assists in 45 games for Dortmund.
