According to reports in Italy, Mainz's star midfielder Johannes Geis has agreed a deal with Miroslav Klose's Lazio. The German player will sign a five-year deal with the Rome-based club.

The newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that the clubs have agreed on a deal for Geis which will see the midfielder move to Italy for over eight million euros (nine million dollars). Geis is likely to sign a five-year deal and earn one million euros per season (1.1 million dollars).

The 21-year old midfielder is a preferred candidate of Lazio Sporting Director Igli Tare, according to the Italian newspaper. Tare was a player for Karlsruher SC, Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Kaiserslautern in his playing career. Geis, who is currently under contract with Mainz until 2017, will feature in Germany's U21 team at the European Championships in the Czech Republic.
