Bhutan is often presented as an ideal country. The kingdom is famous for its breathtaking nature, environmental awareness, and its inhabitants' happiness. But behind the facade lurks a darker reality.

The only religion the ruling Wangchuck family allows is Buddhism. The royal dynasty has been in power for a century, and is closely associated with Buddhism. While Hollywood stars and other millionaires come in great numbers to work on their karma, their visits are made possible by poorly paid workers exploited by the royal family.

The film looks at how the Wangchuck family rules Bhutan, as well as the young counterculture movement that has emerged since the country’s exposure to the internet.
