Violent unrest erupted last month in KuGompo, formerly East London, South Africa following the controversial installation of a man as the "Igbo king" of the community.

Leaders in Nigeria and South Africa say the title carries no official authority, but the incident has triggered anger, protests and debate. Is this simply a cultural misunderstanding — or does it reflect deeper tensions around migration, identity and leadership?

In this episode of the DW AfricaLink podcast, Lucy Riley speaks with Charles Nwekeaku from the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum and DW's Thuso Khumalo from Pretoria, South Africa.
