Thomas Hitzlsperger was always the perfect professional. He's a popular figure who gives his all on and off the pitch. At 18 he went abroad, now he's picked up a special award as a German Football Ambassador.
After spending some time in England he went on to play football in Italy and the Bundesliga. "Hitz the Hammer" also played 52 games for the German national football team including his last one as captain. But for Hitzlsperger, life is more than just football, and he's been involved in a number of projects against xenophobia and racism. Now he's received the 2015 German Football Ambassadors Honorary Award. He talked to us about his efforts against discrimination and his plans to begin working as a journalist.
