Mountain lovers can now travel from Zermatt to Klein Matterhorn in a hyper-modern cable car. The "Matterhorn Glacier Ride" in Switzerland is the world's highest cableway, and a feat of construction.
From September 29, the cabins of the "Matterhorn Glacier Ride" will hover to Europe's highest mountain railway station. The aim is to transport 2,000 passengers per hour quickly and safely to the Swiss mountain paradise.
Authorities have begun airlifting stranded tourists by helicopter after road and rail links to Zermatt were cut off. At least 80 centimeters of snow dropped on the town over 24 hours.
Tourists in the Swiss resort town of Zermatt under the Matterhorn mountain peak have been stranded for the second time in a month. Officials expected more snow overnight.
Several ski tourers died and others were in critical condition after spending a night on an exposed Swiss mountainside at 3,000 meters altitude. German, French and Italian nationals were among the group.
