Reporter Jessikka Aro knew her work exposing Russian disinformation efforts was important by the viciousness of those trying to silence her. A Finnish court is due to decide whether the pro-Kremlin trolls went too far.
In much of the Middle East, journalists' work is systematically hindered. The situation has enormous consequences for these societies at large: The free expression of political thought is impossible for most people.
In a major ruling that exceeded prosecutors' requests, a court in Finland sentenced a man to prison for harassing journalist Jessikka Aro. She had been targeted for years by pro-Russian trolls over her reporting.
