Each year, over a billion tons of food lands in the trash worldwide. Much of it is still edible. Now a movement in Germany is doing something about it. In December 2012, the non-profit association Foodsharing went online. Since then, it's succeeded in giving away more than 2000 kilograms of foodstuffs.
The number one rule is: Users may only offer food items they would eat themselves. Meticulous records are kept of purchase and expiration dates.
