The Jan. 24 bombing of Moscow’s Domodedovo airport claimed the lives of more than 30 people. Chechen rebel warlord Doku Umarov claimed his group was responsible for the attack. The Russian authorities were quick to trace the bomber to the conflict-ridden North Caucasus republics. The semi-autonomous states of Ingushetia, Chechnya and Dagestan are home to Islamists fighting for independence from Moscow.
