Researchers develop tuna alternative from marine algae

Algae are considered a superfood, and now a tuna substitute made from it is also on the market. But because seaweed absorbs pollutants from seawater, researchers are trying to cultivate algae in salty groundwater instead.

Vegan tuna made from algae, beans and peas with a surprisingly authentic taste. But how clean is the imitation canned ‘fish’? After all, seaweed absorbs heavy metals from seawater. Researchers are therefore working on new cultivation methods with saline groundwater to produce pollution-free algae. The taste test on the street is certainly positive.
