After falling in love with Germany in 1992 when studying for a semester in Reutlingen near Stuttgart, I've made it a point to come back on several occasions since then. I have become particularly enamored with the hip vibe and world-class offerings of Berlin. I have been to Berlin five times and like it so much I am trying to move there. For young people I would highly recommend staying at Circus Hostel. It has a great, fun and friendly atmosphere and is very clean. The best hostel I've ever been to. A club I would highly recommend would be Berghain. It has to be experienced to be believed! - Darryl Yetman, US

As a young American serviceman living in Kaiserslautern, my wife and I spent our first wedding anniversary in 1971 touring the Neuschwanstein Castle. My wife bought a gift there which we still have. We have good memories from there. We had never seen anything quite so beautiful. - Barry Brooks, US

It was truly a wonderful experience for me to visit Neuschwanstein Castle almost 20 years ago. First I saw Lindorf and then up the mountain to the castle! I walked up the path, through the forest and beside the mountain stream on a cold day. There were horse drawn wagons for part of the trip, but you had to walk the rest of the way. I was too impatient to wait for a tour in English, so decided to try my German language comprehension with the German tour. I thought that the Singers' Hall was one of the most beautiful and unusual rooms I had ever seen. I remember vividly the beautiful blue of the lapis lazuli used on the murals and the beautiful woods and shine of the floor. After seeing the castle I walked back down the path and again was greeted by the smell and then the taste of hot cider on that sunny but cold day. Neuschwanstein is a feast for the senses! - Marlene Hammar, Canada

My family was expellees from East Germany and I took four years of German in school. I went to Germany in 2001 and 2004. What I found interesting is that when I approached people in Germany and spoke German, people would answer in English. What stunned me was that when I asked a policeman in Munich where Hotel Einhorn was, he answered in perfect English, "Down the street and turn left." In the small towns I conversed mostly in German. - David Worsham - US

My husband and I have visited the former East Germany several times and found it lovely and definitely worth visiting. Dresden, Meissen and Weimar were especially interesting and beautiful. We loved seeing the restoration work that has been done in those cities. Our favorite part of Germany, however, is definitely Bavaria, because of the beauty of the countryside, the traditions of the people (I love seeing the traditional clothing). And the people tend to be friendlier, too. - Brigitte Huff, US

After having visited Germany, I would like to recommend to visitors in Germany not to forget the very nice region in the Southwest where wonderful white and red wine is made, starting at the French border, along the German Wine Route. I enjoyed all the typical "Weinfests" and am sure that they will also be appreciated by other foreign visitors. - Wal Naessens, France
