Nuclear arms race: Is Europe Caught in the Middle?
Otfried Nassauer heads the Berlin Information Centre for Transatlantic Security. His topic is arms control. His thesis: "What comes after the Nuclear Arms Treaty? Nuclear weapons are expected to become more important for European security. Disarmament and non-proliferation are losing importance."
Alan Posener, German-British author at the daily newspaper "Die Welt", says: "The West won the last arms race. There is no reason why we shouldn't win this one if we stop yammering and start building missiles and installing missile defense systems."
Sabine Siebold is defense expert at the Thomson Reuters news agency. Her thesis: "The suspension of the Nuclear Arms Treaty is another sign that our old world order based on treaties is dissolving and that the power structure in the world is being renegotiated - also regarding the rise of countries like China."
