Amazon manatees are considered a vulnerable species. Their numbers appear to be in decline. Their only enemies are people who hunt them for their meat. The Amazon Rescue Center in Iquítos, Peru, rehabilitates ones that are orphaned or injured.
If you know where to look at Peru's infamous rainforest market, you'll find all sorts of endangered animals for sale as bushmeat or as pets. But some are trying to stop the trade before it's too late.
