French banlieues: Parents unite against violence

After a police shooting sparked fierce unrest across France earlier this summer, a group of parents in a Paris suburb is working to rebuild trust between local youths and the authorities.

The shooting of 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk by a Paris officer police in June 2023 sparked fierce unrest. Now, a group of parents from the Paris suburb of Vigneux-sur-Seine is working to prevent such violence and build trust between youths and the police. But anger and distrust run deep. DW reporter Lisa Louis met with the parents' initiative and spoke with local youths.
