Girona in the region of Catalonia in northeastern Spain may not be as well known as nearby Barcelona, but it's well worth making the extra detour for its medieval charm, terrific food, and an insight into Catalonian traditions. One such custom is castells where people form a human pyramid. UNESCO lists the tradition as part of the World Cultural Heritage.
