The Belgian city of Aalst's rollicking carnival has been overshadowed by charges of anti-Semitism. Many participants dress in costumes featuring racist tropes, anti-Semitic stereotypes, and even Nazi uniforms — which has prompted UNESCO to take Aalst's carnival off its list of cultural heritage events.
