A lot of money and energy are being invested in the old center of West Berlin. The area around Kurfürstendamm had faded after reunification. The so-called City-West has plenty of attractions, however: the Berlin Zoo, luxury department store KaDeWe and the Zoo Palast cinema. Another attraction is the recently reopened shopping center in the 1950s Bikini-Haus. With pop-up shops and a hip bar on the top floor, it’s one of many venues that have contributed to the revival of the area.
