At least 17 people are killed, including the Interior Minister in clashes between police and protesters in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan has declared a state of emergency after violent clashes between police and anti-government protestors. At least 17 people are reported dead and 140 injured. Police say the country's interior minister is among the victims. The violence erupted as thousands of protestors gathered at the presidential offices in the capital Bishkek. They're demanding the resignation of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, accusing him of rights violations, corruption and economic mismanagement. The clashes follow weeks of political unrest and have been further fuelled by the arrests of leading opposition politicians.
