Inside Fremantle Prison

Michael Marek
June 1, 2018

The hip and modern facade of the Western Australian city of Fremantle belies its colonial past. From the mid-19th century until 1991, Fremantle Prison was used by British settlers to lock-up convicts — many of whom were unjustly convicted. Today, the building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where tourists can remember the lives and fates of the prisoners.
