World in Progress: Reviving India's Gondi language

The language of Gondi is spoken by over two million people across six Indian states. But despite its many speakers, Gondi is listed as vulnerable by the UN's cultural agency UNESCO. Gondi doesn't have a standard script and varying dialects have made it difficult for speakers from different states to communicate with each other. Gondi speakers have teamed up to put together their first dictionary.
