World in Progress: Cocoa crisis in Ivory Coast

The demand for chocolate in emerging countries is not taking off as analysts had hoped. Add to that record cocoa yields in West Africa and speculative practices on world stock markets and you have a recipe for meltdown in West Africa, where 70 percent of the world's cocoa grows. Cocoa farmers struggle to make a living.
