In 2014, the jihadi group Boko Haram abducted 276 schoolgirls from Chibok in northeastern Nigeria, shocking the world and drawing international attention to the country's security crisis. The kidnappings sparked the global #BringBackOurGirls campaign, which mobilized activists, governments and prominent international figures.
More than a decade later, over 80 of the Chibok schoolgirls remain missing. Campaigners say successive Nigerian governments have yet to fully address the root causes of mass kidnappings, leaving families of the missing bearing the long‑term burden of uncertainty.
