A ceasefire agreed in Minsk in February for eastern Ukraine keeps being breached. Neither side says it’s responsible. Locals caught in the crossfire just want to get on with their lives.
More ceasefire violations have been reported in eastern Ukraine, with four soldiers killed in a fight with rebels. The latest truce deal between Ukraine and pro-Russia separatists had only been agreed a day earlier.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has underlined Berlin's support for Kyiv on his first visit to the front line in eastern Ukraine. He also announced a new round of peace talks aimed at ending the conflict there.
Ukraine's military says nine soldiers have died in clashes with Russia-backed rebels in the east of the country. The violence follows a separatist announcement of a plan to form a new state called Little Russia.
Ukraine's president and Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed the decision to recommit to a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine first agreed in 2015. But the US is reported to be sending lethal weapons to Kyiv.
