Beethoven Worldwide: The Pastoral Project

2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth. Symphony No. 6 saw the composer set his romantic perception of nature to music.

 The ‘Pastorale’ is the starting point for the worldwide Beethoven Pastoral Project.

Parallel to the project, the DW documentary ‘Inspired by Nature’ looks at five different musicians and ensembles on five continents whose work addresses the issues of nature and the environment. They include Australian violist and composer Brett Dean, Grammy-winning Indian film music composer Ricky Kej and Ethiopian pop singer Betty G. How does their music resonate in a time where the world faces climate change and environmental devastation?
