The Sundarbans, the world’s biggest mangrove delta, is at risk. Straddling India and Bangladesh, the low lying islands are threatened by rising sea levels, subsidence and increasingly extreme weather. The area is home to millions of people as well as being a crucial ecosystem. Farmers face the loss of their land and their homes and forced migration. Now, eco-engineers have come up with a low-cost, biodegradable solution to fight erosion and help restore and reinforce river banks and shores. Based on past knowledge and made by local artisans, this measure supports climate resilience and livelihoods.
