Within the space of just a few years, the digital revolution has profoundly changed every aspect of human life - including our love life. How are love and partnership defined in the digital age, and what does the future hold? Will sex robots prove the better partners?

The digital revolution is profoundly changing our understanding of love and desire. New technological developments and inventions promise to optimize every aspect of our lives, including our love lives. Today, love is a project in which everyone strives to achieve the best results for themselves, and sexuality has become an adventure playground.

Entire industries have emerged to generate desire, bring people together and improve relationships. The market for online pornography, sex toys, potency pills and erotic literature is booming. So too are dating apps, offering matches for everything from a cuddle to a casual sexual encounter. Virtual Reality technology promises completely new sexual experiences, and even the very young today can easily access a wide range of pornography that was once a domain off-limits to anyone except those determined to find it. Is such exposure altering the sexuality of the next generation?

Single adults are already finding it difficult to find a long-term partner. Although a majority of Germans say they still believe in true love, studies have found that in the digital age, new relationships last an average of less than three years. Will sex robots prove the better partners? The first sex dolls equipped with the latest advancements in artificial intelligence have already hit the market.

This report asks sociologists, scientists and relationship therapists how these developments will impact society, and what they mean for the future of love, sex and partnerships.
