A fire has killed 10 people at the youth academy of one of Brazil's premier football clubs, Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro. The blaze broke out in a special facility where out-of-town youngsters live while training.
At least 49 people have died and more than 20 are injured after a Bangladeshi plane burst into flames as it came in to land at Kathmandu airport. Officials said the plane was "out of control" as it approached the runway.
Alan Ruschel, one of three Chapecoense players to survive the plane crash which killed 71 people last year, will make his comeback in a glamour friendly against Barcelona. He had back surgery following the disaster.
Tennis dominated the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards. Roger Federer won sportsman of the year and comeback of the year, while Serena Williams was named sportswoman of the year. The Mercedes F1 team also claimed a prize.
