Senegal is the third largest producer of octopus on the African continent, yet octopus stock has fallen by 90 percent since the 1980s. For 20 years, unsustainable fishing practices were ignored in the race to make a profit on the international market. But when fishermen saw the near total decline of their livelihood, they had no choice but to start fishing responsibly.
